CAFE BAKER
Job description
We're looking for a skilled Baker to join our café team. You'll be responsible for preparing fresh baked goods daily, including scones, cakes, buns, and other sweet treats that delight our customers and complement our coffee offerings.
Responsibilities
- Daily baking. Prepare and bake a variety of items including scones, muffins, cakes, pastries, and seasonal treats from scratch.
- Quality & consistency. Follow recipes accurately to ensure all baked goods maintain consistent taste, texture, and presentation.
- Production planning. Manage baking schedules so fresh products are available throughout the café's operating hours.
- Stock management. Monitor baking supplies and ingredients, notifying management when items need to be reordered.
- Food safety & cleanliness. Maintain a clean, organized baking area and follow all food safety and hygiene standards.
- Finishing & presentation. Decorate and finish baked goods to a high standard so they're visually appealing.
- Menu development. Create new recipes and seasonal offerings to keep the menu fresh and interesting.
- Teamwork. Collaborate with café staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a baker, preferably in a café or bakery setting.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, measurements, and timing. Ability to follow recipes precisely while achieving consistent results. Understanding of how different ingredients interact and affect outcomes.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures. Ability to maintain hygiene standards in a commercial kitchen environment.
- Efficiently managing baking schedules to have products ready at the right times. Prioritizing tasks when preparing multiple items simultaneously. Working quickly without compromising quality.
- Precision in measuring ingredients and following recipes. Ensuring consistent quality and presentation across all baked goods. Spotting and correcting issues before products reach customers.
- Ability to work early morning shifts (baking typically begins before café opening). Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Self-motivation to complete tasks without constant direction.
- Keeping the baking area clean and organized. Managing inventory and supplies efficiently. Planning ahead to prevent running out of popular items.

- Understanding customer preferences and trends. Receptiveness to feedback from café staff about what's selling well. Interest in creating products that align with the café's brand and clientele.

Coffee Shop Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a Coffee Shop Assistant to join our team. Greet customers and take orders efficiently. Provide recommendations on menu items and answer questions about products. Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally.
Responsibilities
- Prepare specialty coffee drinks including espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and other beverages to company standards. Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee equipment.
- Ensure consistency in drink quality and presentation. Stay updated on coffee preparation techniques and brewing methods.
- Process cash and card payments accurately using the point-of-sale system. Handle cash register operations including opening and closing procedures.
- Close the till at the end of shifts. Process refunds and exchanges when necessary.
- Work effectively as part of a team to ensure smooth operations during busy periods. Communicate clearly with colleagues about stock levels, equipment issues, and customer needs.
- Support team members during peak times. Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Clear and clean tables, chairs, and customer areas throughout the shift. Perform opening duties including setting up equipment, preparing ingredients, and arranging displays.
- Execute closing procedures including cleaning equipment, securing the premises, and preparing for the next day. Maintain high standards of hygiene in all food preparation and service areas. Follow health & safety regulations at all times.
- Stock and replenish supplies including coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and retail items. Monitor inventory levels and inform management of low stock. Receive and check deliveries.
- Maintain product displays and ensure items are properly labeled with prices and allergen information. Keep the workspace organised and ensure equipment is in good working order.
- Prepare light food items such as sandwiches, salads, or pastries as required. Follow food safety and hygiene standards consistently.
- Assist with promotional activities and upselling products. Maintain knowledge of all menu items, ingredients, and allergen information.
- Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to management. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
